Hello everyone! As many of you know, I’m starting a side business, creating badges for conventions, cosplay, LARP, and all kinds of fun, nerdy-type uses.
LARP folks: share info about your character, including status and titles. Cosplay folks: identify your costume or give credit to a tailor/seamstress. Authors/artists/con vendors: let folks know who you are and where to find your work!
In order to help spread news far and wide, I’m going to be doing a couple of giveaways! This one is the Tumblr-only giveaway. It ends April 15 at midnight, CST.
First prize: One Painted or Acrylic badge, including shipping anywhere in the world. If you contribute to the indiegogo and win this prize, you can use it to upgrade the badge you purchased.
You can enter this giveaway up to three times:

ENDS AT MIDNIGHT TONIGHT!
This is a variation of a great discussion we had a last summer about your reading habits. A lot of us talked about how we how we read (e-book? print? audiobook? bookmarks? multiple books at once?) but now I’m wondering when/where you do your reading. I know it can be hard to find time to read when your life gets busy, but feel free to share past experiences if you’re currently taking a break from reading.
Normally, I read a little bit before bed. A chapter or two, depending on how tired I am or how good the book is. If the book I’m reading isn’t huge, I carry it with me and read on longer public transit trips or if I show up early somewhere (which I tend to do). Lately I’ve been listening to audiobooks on my phone on longer walks. If I’m feeling REALLY extravagant, like now that my semester is over, I’ll go to a coffee shop just to read for an hour. All of this sort of diminishes when I get really busy, until I get so cranky that I make myself take a reading break, which usually calms me down and cheers me up.
What about you?
I read on my lunch breaks. I eat pretty quickly but have an hour break, so I usually get somewhere between 30-45 minutes in.
If I’m reading for class, I do it at my desk. Probably with tumblr open.
I listen to audiobooks on the way to work 1, then read in the car for about 15 minutes before going inside. There, I plug in my headphones and continue the audiobook until someone has a question or wants to discuss a thing, and pretty much keep that going until the end of my shift.
I hop in the car to drive to job 2 (still listening to my audiobook, usually), then eat my sandwich in the car before work (I have about an hour to kill if traffic is in my favor) and open the hard copy or e-book I was reading before work 1. On the way home from work 2, audiobook time.
When I get home from work 2, I read while cooking dinner, while eating dinner, and then put it away because I can’t read immediately before bed anymore. Last time I did that, I was reading Karen Marie Moning’s Fever series and had crazy faerie apocalypse dreams that persuaded me pre-bedtime reading isn’t happening anymore.
On my day off, I read during breakfast. I read while I’m in line at the grocery store. I read while walking around the lake by my house or on the treadmill or on my couch.
I’m with you, lecieltumultueux: I get super cranky when I haven’t been reading. I don’t get lunch breaks, dinner breaks, or coffee breaks, though, so I do a lot of multitasking.
I read before bed, audiobooks in the car, but I also read on the reference desk, I’ll admit.
When we aren’t busy and I don’t have a project, I tend to crack open an ebook.
I have a lot of interesting feelings about therapy tonight, I think I really like my therapist. She is younger and a little awkward, and I think if she wasn’t my therapist we could be friends?
my therapist suggested that I find a gchat buddy or someone to chat at throughout the day.
